This part-time role provides an opportunity to work remotely while managing critical oncology data and supporting cancer registry operations. You will analyze, validate, and abstract complex clinical information, ensuring data accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards. The role involves collaborating with internal teams and external healthcare providers, maintaining quality assurance, and supporting clinical trial documentation. You will also contribute to process improvements and educational initiatives while staying up to date on the latest oncology data management practices. This position offers meaningful exposure to clinical data operations in a collaborative and detail-oriented environment.

Accountabilities:

  • Abstract and manage oncology data in compliance with federal, state, and accreditation standards.
  • Analyze clinical data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and validity using registry tools and coding manuals.
  • Perform data validation, identify missing information, and coordinate with external providers to complete records.
  • Maintain and update patient records, including clinical trial documentation and cancer registry entries.
  • Provide guidance and support to junior data specialists and assist in coordinating educational conferences and departmental functions.
  • Participate in quality assurance initiatives, policy updates, and process improvement projects.
  • Stay current on oncology data trends, guidelines, and regulatory requirements, applying knowledge to enhance data operations.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in a healthcare-related field required; Bachelor’s degree in a science-related field strongly preferred.
  • Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) certification required with a minimum of 3 years of registry experience, or 5+ years of cancer registry operations experience with ODS certification obtained within 2 years of hire.
  • Minimum of 5 years clinical medical experience.
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations, accreditation standards, and oncology coding guidelines (CS, AJCC, FORDS, SEER, NCCN).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact professionally with internal teams and external providers.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and capable of working independently in a remote environment.
  • Ability to participate in off-hours support and occasional travel as needed.
