This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for an Oncology Data Specialist - FT in the United States.
The Oncology Data Specialist plays a key role in managing and analyzing oncology-related clinical data to ensure accuracy, compliance, and completeness for cancer registries. This position involves abstracting complex clinical information, maintaining data quality, and supporting research and reporting initiatives. You will collaborate with physicians, hospitals, and registry teams to collect, validate, and document patient data according to federal, state, and institutional standards. The role requires attention to detail, clinical knowledge, and familiarity with oncology treatment pathways and guidelines. By providing expert insights and supporting educational initiatives, the Oncology Data Specialist ensures high standards in cancer data management while contributing to research and quality improvement projects.
Accountabilities:
- Abstract and review clinical oncology data in accordance with federal, state, and institutional guidelines.
- Analyze cases to ensure accurate, complete, and valid data entry for cancer registries.
- Utilize clinical knowledge and registry resources to validate treatment pathways and coding standards (e.g., CS, AJCC, FORDS, SEER, NCCN).
- Communicate with external providers and institutions to collect missing or updated patient information.
- Maintain patient data related to clinical trials and ensure proper documentation.
- Assist in quality assurance initiatives, policy updates, and department improvement projects.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to less experienced data specialists and support educational programs such as tumor boards and clinical conferences.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in a healthcare-related field required; Bachelor’s degree with a science emphasis strongly preferred.
- Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) certification required; minimum 3 years of registry experience, or 5+ years of full-spectrum cancer registry experience with ODS certification obtained within 2 years.
- 5+ years of clinical medical experience required.
- Strong knowledge of oncology data standards, registry operations, and clinical coding guidelines.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to interpret complex clinical information.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with internal teams, external providers, and stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining high accuracy and efficiency standards.
