Job Description

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Software Engineering Manager in the United States.

This role offers an opportunity to lead a high-performing software engineering team while driving the architecture and delivery of cloud and on-premise systems. You will translate operational goals into actionable technical plans, set engineering standards, and oversee code quality and project execution. This hands-on leadership position combines team mentoring with active participation in design, coding, and review processes. You will collaborate closely with product owners, implementation specialists, and cross-functional teams to ensure predictable delivery, scalable architecture, and measurable outcomes. The position emphasizes both technical excellence and fostering an inclusive, high-performance engineering culture.

Accountabilities:

·         Lead and develop the engineering team: set goals, conduct 1:1s, performance reviews, and coordinate compensation.

·         Mentor engineers, provide coaching and structured feedback, and cultivate a culture of continuous learning and ownership.

·         Plan headcount, support recruitment, onboard new team members, and integrate vendor support.

·         Create and manage the engineering budget, optimizing tool usage, cloud spend, licenses, and contracts.

·         Author architecture documents, design APIs, data models, and service boundaries; enforce coding standards, CI/CD quality, and security practices.

·         Plan and drive multi-sprint initiatives, manage trade-offs, risks, scope, and timelines.

·         Refine requirements, prioritize backlogs, and ensure predictable, on-time delivery.

·         Define and maintain software lifecycle practices, testing strategies, SLIs/SLOs, and observability metrics.

·         Lead incident response, post-incident reviews, and cross-functional coordination with IT, operations, and compliance teams.

Requirements

·         7+ years of professional software development experience.

·         2+ years of direct people management, including hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, and accountability for delivery and quality.

·         Strong experience architecting and delivering production systems at scale in cloud and on-prem environments.

·         Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript (Node.js), Python, API design (REST/OpenAPI), and databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL, time-series databases).

·         Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).

·         Knowledge of application security, secrets management, and least-access principles.

·         Familiarity with observability tools (Datadog), automated testing (Cypress, Artillery), and front-end frameworks (ReactJS/AngularJS).

·         Strong communication skills for collaboration with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

·         Desired: Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), event streaming (Kafka), infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible), reverse proxying (Nginx), data center protocols (MQTT, SNMP, Modbus, BACnet), and experience with LLM coding tools.
