Senior Backend Developer (India)

In this role, you will play a key part in designing, building, and maintaining scalable backend systems that support large-scale data platforms across multiple sectors. You will work closely with diverse internal and external stakeholders to translate requirements into actionable solutions, ensuring high performance, security, and reliability. The role involves managing backend infrastructure, developing APIs, and creating robust data pipelines while contributing to open-source initiatives. The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative, hybrid work environment, enjoys solving complex technical challenges, and is motivated by making a meaningful impact through data-driven solutions. Occasional travel within India may be required to support project commitments.

Accountabilities:

·         Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend systems handling large-scale data from diverse sources.

·         Build and manage APIs and data pipelines for efficient data processing and integration.

·         Develop monitoring, evaluation, and observability tools for backend infrastructure.

·         Ensure backend systems follow best practices for security, privacy, and performance optimization.

·         Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to refine requirements and deliver high-quality solutions.

·         Contribute to open-source projects and the wider tech ecosystem.

·         Maintain infrastructure scalability through efficient architecture, orchestration, and automation.

·         Minimum 3+ years of experience in backend web frameworks and RESTful service development (Python preferred; Golang, Ruby, or JavaScript also acceptable).

·         Strong understanding of relational and NoSQL databases, including indexing, querying, caching, and optimization.

·         Experience with Git workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and modern DevOps practices.

·         Familiarity with scalable infrastructure, microservices, distributed systems, and cloud deployment (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.).

·         Excellent communication skills to translate technical requirements into actionable development plans.

·         Good to have: open-source project experience, Docker/Kubernetes knowledge, queuing mechanisms (Redis, RabbitMQ, Celery), prior remote work experience, and collaboration with government or research organizations.

·         Must be a team player with adaptability, problem-solving skills, and a good sense of humor.
