This role offers the opportunity to support critical network operations for a major federal health agency, ensuring the reliability, performance, and security of essential IT infrastructure. As a Network Specialist, you’ll be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and enhancing LAN/WAN systems across a complex medical network environment. You’ll play a hands-on role in diagnosing issues, upgrading systems, and supporting routing, switching, and firewall technologies. This is a fully remote position that combines technical depth with the chance to make a tangible impact on mission-critical operations supporting national defense and healthcare systems.

Accountabilities:

·         Provide daily operational support for LAN core and edge switches across the network campus.

·         Diagnose and resolve technical issues involving routing protocols and network layers using advanced diagnostic tools.

·         Manage network infrastructure including routers, switches, firewalls, and cabling.

·         Plan, install, and support hardware and software upgrades, ensuring seamless integration and minimal downtime.

·         Support network security standards and compliance with DoD policies.

·         Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure optimal network performance and reliability.

Requirements

·         Strong understanding of OSI Model Layers 1–3, TCP/IP, VTP, SMTP, SNMP, DNS, DHCP, routing protocols, and EIA/TIA cable standards.

·         Familiarity with firewall and VPN technologies, as well as LAN/WAN troubleshooting.

·         Excellent communication and problem-solving skills with an analytical mindset.

·         Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field and at least 3 years of experience, or equivalent certification with 8 years of relevant experience.

·         Compliance with DoD Directive 8570.01 — Security+ CE certification required.

·         Current CCNA or equivalent Juniper/Brocade certification preferred.

·         Prior DoD or medical network experience highly desirable.
