Job Description
We’re a new remote games studio, focused on building games that bring people together.
We believe games with the highest fun per minute have the highest chance of success. We are a start-up and not a big company, which means we’re a bit scrappy but we’re resourceful, highly collaborative and focused on outcomes and shipping builds over process and meetings.
We aim to hire multi-talented individuals who can operate autonomously and at speed, with every role at the studio being hands-on working directly on our games.
Role Overview
We’re looking to bring on a level designer for a 1 month contract, with potential to extend further depending on how things go.
We are looking for an experienced Level Designer to own end to end creation of engaging, mechanics and physics driven play spaces that encourage creative problem solving and support cooperative play.
Key Responsibilities
1 - Deliver puzzles
Design, build and deliver high-quality levels and puzzle content to support launch.
Success looks like:
- Understand our design ethos and deliver a steady daily cadence of releasable content
- Move fast, try out ideas, iterate on what works, throwing out what doesn’t
- Keep solutions simple, readable and ready to release
- Participate in frequent team play testing, and fine tune the levels as needed
2 - Functionality
Ensure our content generation and layout tools can produce play spaces at the right level of complexity for our game, and can produce the required amount of scope with ease.
Success looks like:
- Defining and communicating our games level design needs to the wider team
- Working with the engineering team to build the functionality needed for our levels
3 - Discovery and Delight
Contribute to the discovery and delight aspect of our game by designing sharable player moments in interesting and surprising ways.
Success looks like:
- Ideate and implement optional discoveries and playful surprises that encourage sharing
- Ensure discoverable moments remain additive, lightweight and fun
Requirements
- 3+ years game design experience
- Shipped networked multiplayer titles
- Comfortable working in a small, fast-moving team
- Proficient with Unity & probuilder
- Passion for indie games and ‘friendslop’ titles
