Job Description

The Embedded Linux Engineer role is responsible for the Operating System build on new hardware, the OS development roadmap, the underlying   and application stack for new hardware devices. The role will ensure the OS works stably with all new hardware and peripherals, test that core application functions operate as expected on new hardware and work in with the application team in developing for new OS and hardware changes. The role will also develop a testing procedure and documentation for the introduction/deployment of new hardware with Coates operating system/application stack and assist in guiding the strategic direction and  evolution of the OS/hardware.

Responsibilities

Role Responsibilities

  • Development of embedded edge/IoT Linux OS images (likely based on the Yocto platform), optimization of OS/hardware performance, assessment of possible  platforms/partners, and integration of peripherals.
  • Integration of device level software and scripted OS image components and implementation of application layer requirements in tandem with application team.
  • Development of, and integration with, automated deployment and image management process, and integration with existing Git and CI/CD toolkit, documentation of core processes and procedures (imaging, maintenance, remote access, remote upgrading) and advise on the development, implementation and operation of robust QA processes.
  • Improvement and management of IoT system and development of device level data collection tools.
  • Development of new OS images for legacy systems.
  • Requirements

    Role Requirements

  • Degree Level Embedded Software Engineering Qualification.
  • Project experience with ground up development of bare metal embedded technology solutions, and custom Linux kernel development.
  • Detailed knowledge of electronic system design, embedded programming, constrained software optimization, AI/ML hardware optimization, network security, bare metal OS/instruction programming, debugging, statistical data analysis.
  • Specialization In multiple low level/bare metal coding languages (Assembly, C, C++, Rust, Go).
  • 3-4 years in electrical software technology engineering role.
