Job Description

Programme Manager (Forward Deployed)

About M-1

M-1 partners with enterprises to design, build and scale agents across complex technology programmes.

Our platform is built on applied AI research tuned to technology project management, so it understands requirements, roadmaps, defects, data migration and everything in between. Our customers, B2B software companies delivering complex enterprise implementations, use the platform to turn expensive manual effort into scalable AI workflows.

Many of our customers’ best people already build powerful AI workflows for themselves, for example using Claude to read customer requirements in Excel and cross-reference them against Jira. The enterprise challenge is making those individual workflows reliable at scale. That’s where M-1 comes in: managing dynamic, often conflicting programme context across teams and customers, while providing the controls enterprises need around observability, evals, security, permissions and compute cost.

We’re early-stage, revenue-generating, and already live on critical multi-million-pound technology programmes in our beachhead segment: financial services.

The Role

This is a programme management role, operating in M-1’s forward-deployed model. We’re looking for someone who understands how complex technology programmes are delivered and wants to use AI and software to change how that work gets done.

Technology programmes share enough structure to support a common platform, but the highest-value problems only become clear inside each customer. Your first deployment will be 6–12 months embedded as Programme Manager on a major client programme, genuinely owning delivery while identifying the bottlenecks and manual work M-1 can solve through the platform.

Responsibilities

The role combines embedded client delivery with finding and validating new use cases for the M-1 platform.

Client work

Own delivery as Programme Manager for a major client technology programme.

  • Keep delivery on track against agreed scope, milestones and roadmap.
  • Spot delivery problems early and drive them to resolution.
  • Work closely with product and technology teams to maintain a clear view of progress, dependencies, defects and risks.
  • Act as the primary day-to-day interface with the end client on progress, timelines, scope and delivery issues.
  • Run the core programme cadence, including status reporting, workshops, governance and readiness for key releases and go-live.

Platform work

A core part of the role is to automate the repetitive, time-consuming parts of your own work. We expect you to use AI aggressively in your day-to-day client work, building personal workflows that make you faster and create more time for higher-value work.

  • Prototype AI workflows against real delivery problems you encounter.
  • Test and refine them in live use to prove where they create meaningful value.
  • Bring the strongest, repeatable use cases to the M-1 platform team to harden into scalable capabilities.

Experience and Attributes

The more of these apply to you, the better the fit is likely to be:

  • 2+ years’ experience delivering complex technology programmes, ideally at a consultancy or B2B software company.
  • Strong understanding of how software gets delivered in practice, including where implementations tend to get stuck.
  • Experience using AI tools in your work or personal projects, with an instinct to use them to make yourself more effective.
  • Comfortable taking ownership beyond your formal remit and working things out without much structure or hand-holding.
  • Strong client presence: clear, credible and confident working with senior stakeholders.
  • Highly organised and able to stay on top of lots of moving parts, competing priorities and changing information.
  • Genuinely excited by the responsibility and uncertainty of joining an early-stage startup as its first non-founder hire.
  • Technical fluency, for example through coding, data work or a technical academic background.

What we offer

  • From £60,000 salary, plus a meaningful share options package.
  • 25 days’ annual leave, plus UK bank holidays.
  • UK-based, fully remote and flexible working, with occasional UK client travel.

Requirements

UK resident, UK work authorisation
