Duration: 2 - 4 Months

The cybersecurity industry is an arms race, with security products and malware fighting each other. There are many open-source malware implementations which provide examples of the huge variety of malware communications protocols. This project aims to add to the defenders’ arsenal of capabilities by investigating open-source malware implementations and devising ways to detect the communications activities of these malware.

Responsibilities

Scope & Deliverables

  • Setting up a safe sandbox to analyse malware.
  • Explore and study open-source malicious communications and techniques.
  • Recommend strategies for detecting such malicious communications and techniques. Where applicable, develop a proof-of-concept for such detections.
  • Where applicable, develop tools, processes and recommendations to improve analysis work.
  • Prerequisites/Skills Required

  • Aptitude for problem-solving
  • Versatility and creativity
  • Self-motivated and independent worker
  • Experience with programming/scripting in one of the following areas is preferred: Python, Network Communications, Cyber Security
