Heavy Equipment Service Mechanic

Location: Taneytown, MD
Job Type: Direct Hire
Starting Pay: $24.00/hour — higher pay available depending on experience

Position Overview

Seeking an experienced mechanic to keep heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, and other motorized equipment operating safely and reliably. This position involves hands-on troubleshooting, repairs, preventive maintenance, and occasional travel.

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, and other motorized equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical and technical problems involving hydraulics, electronics, small engines, air conditioning, and related systems.
  • Complete maintenance and repair work orders with accurate mileage, operating hours, and repair information.
  • Coordinate repair priorities and emergency maintenance needs with the Shop Foreman.
  • Help reduce equipment downtime by completing repairs efficiently.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and the work area in a clean and organized condition.
  • Follow required safety procedures and regulations.
  • Travel as needed for work assignments, training, meetings, and other business-related activities.
  • Perform additional maintenance duties as assigned.
  • Requirements

    Qualifications

  • 5+ years of maintenance experience working with heavy equipment, trailers, cranes, trucks, or similar machinery.
  • Experience in at least two technical specialties, such as:
    • Hydraulics
    • Electronics
    • Small engines
    • Air conditioning
    • Other related mechanical systems
    • High school diploma/GED plus trade school, dealership, or factory service training equivalent to an associate-level technical education.
    • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to work effectively under pressure and handle urgent repair needs.
    • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
    • Professional certifications related to heavy equipment maintenance and repair are a plus.
  • Physical Requirements

  • Frequent bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, climbing, walking, and standing.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
  • Extended hours may be required.
  • Ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Assistance required for heavier items.
