Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician

Location: Richmond, VA
Job Type: Direct Hire
Pay: Starting at $23.00/hour, with higher pay available depending on experience
Travel: Up to 50%

Position Overview

Seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Maintenance Technician to handle repairs and preventive maintenance on heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, and other motorized equipment. This is a hands-on position requiring strong mechanical skills and flexibility to respond to emergency repairs.

Responsibilities

What You'll Do

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, and other motorized equipment.
  • Review daily assignments with the Shop Foreman and prioritize repair work.
  • Keep necessary tools and parts organized and readily available to reduce equipment downtime.
  • Complete work orders accurately, including mileage, operating hours, and repair information.
  • Communicate emergency repair needs to the Shop Foreman and respond to priority assignments.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in an organized condition.
  • Follow required safety procedures and regulations.
  • Work with the team to complete repairs efficiently and on schedule.
  • Perform other shop and maintenance duties as needed.
  • Schedule & Travel

  • Up to 50% travel.
  • Must be available 24/7 for emergency calls.
  • Must be willing to travel both out of town and out of state.
  • Ability to work extended hours and in varying weather conditions.
  • Requirements

    Requirements

  • 5+ years of maintenance experience working with heavy equipment and/or trailers/cranes.
  • 5+ years of experience in at least two additional technical areas, such as hydraulics, electronics, or small engines.
  • High School Diploma/GED plus trade school or equivalent diesel mechanical training.
  • Two years of technical/vocational school training and five years of hands-on repair experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License with a good driving record.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and respond with urgency.
  • Physical Requirements

  • Frequent bending, twisting, stooping, walking, and lifting.
  • Regularly lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Assistance required for items weighing more than 75 lbs.
  • Comfortable working extended hours and outdoors in different weather conditions.
