Job Description

We're hiring a mid-senior UI/UX Product Designer on a remote monthly retainer to own product design for client apps at Bolder Apps. You'll work directly with US-based founders and product owners, then hand clean, buildable specs to engineering teams that ship with AI-augmented workflows. We want someone who has run design end to end in an agency or product studio, not someone who only produces mood boards. If you can hold a client call, make hard product trade-offs, and leave Figma files engineers actually build from, we want to talk.

About Us

Bolder Apps is a product development studio that partners with US-based startups and established companies to build and scale innovative digital products. We specialize in AI-powered development, full-cycle product creation, and engineering team augmentation. Our mission is simple: build bolder, faster, and smarter.

Our Culture & Values (read before applying)

We move fast. We take ownership. We work with AI, not against it. And we expect everyone to bring ideas, not wait for instructions.

There are no daily checklists, no micromanagement, and no corporate politics. Instead, you'll have autonomy, trust, and a team that's always ready to help you grow. At Bolder Apps, impact matters more than titles, and curiosity matters more than seniority.

If you want a place where you can level up fast and actually see your work making a difference - welcome aboard.

Responsibilities

  • Own product UI/UX for client mobile and web apps from discovery through handoff, across more than one engagement when the pipeline needs it
  • Run client-facing design reviews, workshops, and async critique during US business hours, including the small talk that keeps trust intact
  • Turn messy briefs into flows, wireframes, high-fidelity screens, and interactive prototypes that answer the product question, not just look finished
  • Build and maintain design systems and component libraries so the next feature does not reinvent buttons, spacing, or states
  • Partner with PMs and engineers on scope cuts, edge cases, empty states, loading, errors, accessibility, and platform conventions (HIG and Material)
  • Produce Figma files engineers can build from: named layers, variants, auto-layout, redlines or tokens, and export-ready assets
  • Use AI design and research tools to move faster, then review the output yourself before it reaches a client or a sprint
  • Flag design risk early when the brief is unclear, the timeline is fake, or the product ask conflicts with platform or technical constraints

Requirements

  • Shipped product design. 4+ years designing production mobile and/or web products that went live. Portfolio shows full case studies with problem, constraints, your decisions, and the shipped result, not isolated pretty screens.
  • Client-facing craft. You have sat on calls with founders or product owners, defended choices without getting defensive, and kept the relationship warm while saying no to bad ideas. Agency or consultancy experience preferred.
  • Figma fluency. Components, variants, auto-layout, variables or tokens, prototyping, shared libraries, and clean file structure. Engineers should not need a meeting to decode your file.
  • Systems thinking. You design for reuse. Patterns, states, and edge cases are part of the job, not an afterthought before handoff.
  • Mobile and web literacy. You know what changes between iOS, Android, and responsive web, and you catch when a web pattern will fail on a phone.
  • AI-augmented workflow. You use tools like Figma AI, Claude, ChatGPT, Midjourney, or similar to accelerate exploration and copy, and you catch when the output is almost right but wrong.
  • English at C1 or above. Client calls and written feedback go out in your voice, not through a translator layer.
  • US hours overlap. Available through roughly 5 PM EST for live client coordination. Async work is welcome; ghosting the client's day is not.
  • Ownership habits. You estimate honestly, surface blockers early, and finish what you commit to. You do not disappear and resurface with surprises.
