Structural Steel Erection Foreman / Leadman
Location: Umatilla, FL
Worksite Addresses: Central Florida, Northern Florida, Tampa, Jacksonville, Brevard County
Pay rate: $40–$42 per hour
Job Type: Direct Hire | Full-Time
We are seeking three experienced Structural Steel Erection Foremen/Leadmen to join our team. This is a working foreman/leadman role, meaning the individual must be able to perform the same tasks as Ironworkers while also providing on-site leadership. The ideal candidate will have proven field experience in steel erection, strong leadership abilities, and the ability to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget.
Qualifications & Skills
- Previous experience in structural steel erection, including both field work and supervisory responsibilities.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications.
- Knowledge of steel construction methods, rigging, tools, and equipment.
- Strong communication and leadership skills; ability to train and direct crews effectively.
- Working knowledge of safety, quality, and cost-control standards.
- Ability to work under pressure while maintaining productivity and quality.
- Must be able to read, write, and understand English.
Tools & Technology Requirements
- Personal tools required: bolt bag, spud wrench, bull pins, weld hood (for welders), tape measure, plumb bob, cheater bar, pliers, clamps, hammers, vise grips, etc.
- Knowledge and use of: transit, laser level, torque guns, welders, rigging equipment, and gas-supplied tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide on-site leadership including scheduling, manpower and equipment planning, supervision, and cost control support.
- Read specifications and blueprints to determine required materials, locations, and quantities.
- Verify vertical and horizontal alignment of structural steel members using precision tools (plumb bobs, lasers, transits, levels).
- Hoist, connect, and bolt steel members into place per blueprints and supervisor instructions.
- Field-assemble steel frames, beams, columns, and girders.
- Cut, bend, and weld steel using appropriate equipment.
- Safely operate and maintain tools, lifts, and small equipment (welders, grinders, saws, hoists, etc.).
- Train, direct, and evaluate crew members while ensuring safety, quality, and compliance with company policies.
- Conduct weekly site safety meetings and complete a 3-week look-ahead schedule.
- Participate in project meetings and maintain open communication with supervisors and project managers.
- Perform quality control inspections and enforce corrective actions as needed.
