Senior UI/UX Design Engineer (AI First, Healthcare)
Zenara HealthJob Description
Product Design Engineer (AI‑First, Healthcare)
Remote · Full‑time · India
Description
Design the UI that lets clinicians move faster and safer. This role is partnership, not decoration: own research, flows, wireframes, prototypes, accessibility, and a reusable design system so engineering (and AI agents) can ship high‑quality features quickly. You’ll turn complex healthcare workflows into intuitive, dependable products for patients and providers.
Values & vibe
A velvet advocate for users: empathetic, curious, practical—and ships. You defend the user perspective with kind authority, make accessibility approachable, and help the team deliver products that truly work. You embrace AI tooling, systematize good patterns, and keep the bar high without drama.
A day in flow
- Two‑minute check‑in: insights queued, prototype iterated, one design risk escalated.
- During sprints: convert research → wireframes → mockups → actionable dev notes by day’s end.
- After: Figma updates, variables/tokens synced, Storybook/component notes ready, usability findings documented, async nudges sent.
What you’ll own
- User research and testing: plan and run interviews, surveys, and usability sessions with clinicians and staff; synthesize insights into actionable flows.
- Interaction and visual design: wireframes, hi‑fi prototypes, and micro‑interactions that simplify complex clinical/ops tasks.
- Accessibility and inclusivity: WCAG 2.1 AA in a healthcare context; color/contrast, keyboard flows, error/empty states; content clarity.
- Design system and tokens (AI‑first): establish Figma variables/tokens, component variants, and usage rules that map cleanly to code (Tailwind/design tokens/Storybook).
- Developer handoff that scales: annotate components, states, and constraints; attach tokens and UI states; provide acceptance criteria; review PRs for UI fidelity.
- AI‑assisted design workflows: leverage LLMs/AI design tools and vibe coding platforms (e.g., V0.dev, Replit, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) for exploration, spec drafting, content variants, and component generation; document prompts/playbooks so others and agents can reproduce.
- Collaboration: partner with product, engineers, and clinicians to sequence work; keep spec docs current; proactively surface trade‑offs and risks.
Authority (ramps with delivery)
From day one, set UX standards. As you deliver, you approve/decline UI implementations, enforce accessibility and design‑system conformance, define “done” for UI quality, and escalate scope/risks early—with leadership backing.
Schedule (India)
Daytime India hours with 4–8 hours overlap to US Pacific as needed for design reviews, user sessions, or handoffs.
What success looks like
- Users report workflows feel faster and clearer; task errors and back‑and‑forth decrease.
- Handoffs are “developer‑friendly”: tokens, component states, and acceptance criteria reduce churn.
- Accessibility compliance met consistently; UI defects trend down; design QA is predictable.
- A shared design language emerges—reused by people and AI agents to ship new screens faster.
What you’ve done
- 3+ years as Product/UX/UI Designer or UX Engineer with a portfolio showing measurable outcomes.
- Advanced Figma: Auto Layout, variables/tokens, variants, component libraries, Dev Mode/inspect.
- Research and usability testing experience; turning findings into decisions quickly.
- Responsive and mobile‑first design; strong information architecture and content clarity.
- Accessibility in practice (WCAG 2.1 AA); pragmatic collaboration with engineering.
- Experience with vibe coding/AI‑assisted platforms is a strong plus: V0.dev, Replit, GitHub Copilot/Copilot Chat, Cursor (or comparable tools), and Figma AI plugins.
Nice‑to‑haves (preferred in healthcare)
- Designed for healthcare/telehealth/EHR workflows; HIPAA awareness.
- Worked with design tokens → code pipelines (Tailwind tokens, Style Dictionary, Storybook).
- Literacy in React semantics and CSS systems; can read code and collaborate closely on component APIs.
- Familiarity with AI design tools and workflows (prompted UI variations, content generation, Figma/AI plugins).
How we work (from team conversation)
- System over bespoke: define a common design language so AI and engineers can “stamp out” UIs from specs.
- Velocity with quality: fast exploration using AI, then tighten into accessible, tokenized components.
- Evidence‑based: show users early, measure, and adjust; keep decision logs lightweight and transparent.
Benefits
Remote‑first • Equipment stipend • Local holidays (India) • Learning budget (UX, accessibility, healthcare tech) • Health insurance
Notes
- Remote across India. City shown for job‑board indexing; no relocation required.
- US‑shift overlap for key sessions.
