Senior Backend Engineer, (Remote, Europe)

Modash gives brands the tools to work with the right content creators and helps creators earn a living doing what they love. Behind the scenes, we’re building the world-class data platform that powers creator discovery for thousands of companies — and we’re looking for a hardened Senior Backend Engineer to shape the direction of the creator economy. 

🚀 What your day-to-day will look like

We’re not a service function — Data & Backend Engineering are core product capabilities at Modash, building products for customers to use. You’ll own projects end-to-end, from idea to launch. 

Here’s a typical day:

• Start your day with a short standup
• Heads-down focus time to plan, build, iterate, and launch
• Minimal meetings — maximum ownership

You’ll be working on big, impactful projects like:

• Building a creator search engine indexing 350M+ influencer profiles
• Creating an understanding of the creators location, age, and interests at scale
• Creating systems to extract audience demographics from raw social data
• Shaping the future of AI-assisted search, exploring how LLMs and embeddings can enhance search and recommendations.

You won’t be patching pipelines — you’ll be creating data products from scratch that directly impact customers.

👥 The Data Team

At Modash, data engineering isn’t a support function — it’s at the heart of the product. You’ll be part of a growing team of 4 data engineers, working alongside 4 backend engineers as part of our broader data organization.

We work in two closely aligned teams:

• Data Engineering – responsible for building our data platform, pipelines, and data points (like for search).
• Backend Engineering – focused on APIs, infrastructure, and the product features that use our data.

We value autonomy, but we also love to work closely as a team — through pair programming, feedback, and shared wins. Everyone is expected to take ownership, but nobody works in isolation.

We’re remote-first, but we make time to connect IRL with regular team offsites, where we have fun, collaborate, and reflect.

🧪 The interview process

We move fast. You can get interviewed in under a week. Process consists of:

1. Intro chat

2. Technical interviews: 1. Coding challenge (Typescript) and 2. System Design

3. Culture & alignment call with the CEO Avery Schrader - That’s it! 

🛠 Skillset we’re looking for

• Solid experience as a Backend Engineer handling large-scale APIs
• Strong experience with TypeScript and NodeJS
• Hands-on experience with scraping, collecting, and/or processing data.
• Familiarity with the AWS ecosystem (Glue, EMR, DynamoDB, etc.)
• You've built full features from idea to production: planning & scoping → architecture → coding → release.
• Experience in a fast-paced startup with strong ownership
• Care deeply about code quality and system design.
• You're based in Europe with at least a few hours overlap with GMT+3
