What will the role involve?

This fast-paced role focuses on capturing breaking UK and international news and trending topics. Working independently on a flexible shift rota (including weekends), you will drive coverage while the main UK/daytime team is offline. Responsibilities will include:

• Monitoring wires and social media and conducting fast-turnaround interviews and desk research to publish accurate, audience focussed stories.
• Enhancing articles with relevant audio, video, and social embeds, while using approved AI tools to streamline content creation and optimisation

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking an ambitious, self-driven journalist with proven digital newsroom experience and an instinct for what captivates UK readers. You are confident at making editorial decisions in a fast-moving environment. 

• Outstanding news judgment, strong UK geographical knowledge, and exceptional headline-writing, research, and fact-checking skills.
• Experience with digital publishing tools, CMS platforms, basic video/social editing, and data analytics.
• Proven ability to spot stories via social media, build quick rapport with phone sources, and navigate digital CMS platforms efficiently.
