Role

We're looking for a Head of Market Development to join our team at BeReal. In this role, you'll be the strategic leader responsible for establishing and scaling BeReal's presence in the Japanese market.

  • Local Strategy & Adaptation: Define Japan-specific growth strategy including positioning, messaging, and distribution channels tailored to Japanese culture and social norms

  • Cultural Product Adaptation: Work closely with product and design teams to adapt BeReal's features to Japanese user preferences, privacy expectations, and social behaviors

  • Market Intelligence: Identify key usage differences compared to Europe/US markets and translate insights into actionable product and marketing strategies

  • User Acquisition & Growth: Lead comprehensive user acquisition campaigns across digital channels, campus initiatives, influencer partnerships, and local events

  • Strategic Partnerships: Build and manage partnerships with universities, local brands, media companies, and content creators to accelerate growth

  • Platform-Specific Growth: Develop growth loops leveraging Japan's unique social media landscape (LINE, Twitter/X, TikTok, etc.)

  • Product Feedback Loop: Serve as the voice of Japanese users to headquarters, identifying successful features and areas for improvement

  • Budget & Operations Management: Oversee marketing and operational budgets while ensuring efficient resource allocation

  • Performance Accountability: Track and optimize key metrics (DAU, retention, virality) while reporting insights and results to headquarters

Profile

  • 7+ years of experience in market development, growth, or general management roles, preferably in consumer tech or social media

  • Proven track record of successfully launching and scaling digital products in the Japanese market

  • Deep understanding of Japanese culture, social media landscape, and consumer behavior patterns

  • Experience building and leading cross-functional teams in fast-paced, high-growth environments

  • Strong analytical mindset with experience in growth metrics, user acquisition, and performance marketing

  • Excellent communication skills in both Japanese and English, with ability to present to C-level executives

  • Experience working with international headquarters while managing local market needs

  • Entrepreneurial mindset with ability to operate independently and make strategic decisions

  • Network within Japan's tech, media, or influencer ecosystem is highly valued

  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred
