Job Description

About The Org

Move for Hunger is a national nonprofit organization that mobilizes transportation networks to deliver surplus food to communities in need. Operating in a remote work environment, Move For Hunger strives to create a culture of diverse, passionate, growth-minded professionals who work collaboratively and creatively to tackle the issues of hunger and food waste in the US. Our team is fun, innovative, goal-oriented, and driven to put more meals on the table for those in need.

Founded in 2009, Move For Hunger has partnered with 1,400+ moving companies nationwide to encourage their customers to donate their food when they move. Over the past few years, we have seen rapid expansion within the relocation and multifamily apartment industries, with over 600,000 apartment units working with us. In addition to rescuing food during move-out, Move for Hunger organizes hundreds of food drives, fundraisers, and corporate employee engagement events. We’ve further expanded our programs to farmers, distributors, CPG, and logistics companies in an effort to recover even more food donations in bulk. Since its founding, our team of 20+ has delivered nearly 100 million pounds of food to those in need - enough to provide more than 80 million meals.
The Role
We’re looking for a creative, highly organized Events Manager to design experiences that make people care about hunger, and then show up and make them happen. You’ll run conference activations, ticketed events, food drives, and virtual fundraisers that build our brand, generate leads, and raise revenue. You’ll report to the Director of Corporate Engagement and work closely with our Marketing, Partnerships, and Operations teams.

Who You Are

  • Operationally strong and detail oriented, juggling multiple events at once without dropping a ball
  • Mission-driven and creative, with a knack for turning purpose into participation
  • Great with sponsors, vendors, conference organizers, and partners
  • Calm and resourceful when something goes sideways on-site
  • A natural team leader who gets the best out of interns and volunteers
  • Comfortable speaking in front of groups

What You’ll Do

Bring our mission to life at conferences and events

  • Plan and run conference activations, from booth experiences and packing events to food drives and truck pulls
  • Handle the details: vendor negotiation, materials, signage, shipping, staffing schedules, and partner coordination
  • Lead on-site setup, execution, and breakdown, and be the go-to contact during live events (expect travel)
  • Create detailed run of shows to set colleagues up for success on-site
  • Work with Marketing & Development teams so every experience tells our story

Create events that raise money and awareness

  • Lead ticketed and sponsored events like receptions, fundraisers, and industry gatherings
  • Manage sponsor deliverables, vendors, and timelines to hit revenue, engagement, and impact goals
  • Plan virtual events, webinars, and digital activations, including speakers, program flow, and promotion

Grow our event footprint

  • Find new conferences, especially beyond our core industries, and pitch organizers on bringing Move for Hunger on board
  • Build lasting relationships with conference hosts, sponsors, and corporate partners
  • Be the main point of contact for partners hosting or sponsoring events

Keep food drives and community events moving

  • Coordinate corporate food drives and community events, including food bank and transportation partners, materials, and reporting
  • Make sure donations are collected and get to the people who need them

Build and lead the team

  • Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers for major events
  • Recruit and supervise interns, giving clear direction and regular feedback

Requirements

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in event management, communications, nonprofit management, hospitality, marketing, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3-5 years in event planning, experiential marketing, conferences, or nonprofit events
  • Experience managing complex logistics, vendors, sponsors, and volunteers across multiple events at once
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills
  • Comfort in fast-paced settings and on-site execution
  • Willingness to travel 25-40% for conferences and events

Working Conditions

  • Fully remote (U.S.-based), core hours Monday–Friday 9 AM–5 PM ET, with occasional work on evenings and weekends
  • Frequent travel required for conferences, partner events, and activations
  • Occasional evenings and weekends during major events
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. for event materials and setup
