The Role
As the Deputy CAMLO, you will be responsible for the overall design, execution, and oversight of the organization's Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Anti-Terrorist Financing (ATF) program. Working closely with the Chief AML Officer (CAMLO), you will act as a strategic visionary and subject matter expert, safeguarding the company's reputation and soundness by significantly reducing financial crime risk.
What you'll be doing:
Work with the Chief Anti Money Laundering Officer (CAMLO) to ensure the safety, soundness, and reputation of the organization by reducing the likelihood that it will be used as a vehicle for, or become a victim of, money laundering, terrorist financing and other types of financial crime.
Ensure reporting obligations to FINTRAC and other key stakeholders are completed in an accurate and timely manner.
Foster a strong culture of compliance through collaboration, transparency, integrity, risk identification and mitigation and internal controls throughout the organization.
Provide strong leadership, guidance and direction to a team of AML Professionals.
Establish documents and communicate standards, policies, processes, procedures and internal controls to manage Anti Money Laundering (AML)/Anti Terrorist Financing (ATF) processes and ensure all staff understand their responsibilities for complying with such policies, procedures and processes.
Oversee AML system and data changes and build-outs related to new products or new features.
Oversee AML/ATF processes to ensure full compliance with applicable laws and regulatory requirements and maintain knowledge of all relevant legislation.
Liaise with industry groups, regulators, law enforcement and internal/external auditors on all AML/ATF related matters.
Monitor the effectiveness of the AML program, reviewing key controls on an on-going basis to determine areas of improvement and key gaps.
Manage and support cross functional initiatives, including large scale implementations, to ensure projects have adequate AML representation and leadership.
Work with the management team to develop and execute AML business plans and roadmaps to ensure that the company attains its short and long-term growth objectives.
Who we are looking for:
7+ years’ experience with AML regulations (PCMLTFA), in a regulated entity or consulting to regulated entities. Past experience at a fintech company is a strong asset.
3+ years in a leadership position
A visionary who shapes agendas and priorities in and beyond their own domain. You are sought after for expertise and knowledge, and seen as a valuable resource to senior executives. You have outstanding analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Experience and comfort working directly with product and technical teams, and ability to provide business requirements that meet AML regulatory requirements.
A high degree of ownership and a “roll up your sleeves” attitude to move the program forward.
Entrepreneurial DNA - comfortable building a business from the ground up, making decisions in the face of ambiguity and dealing with major challenges along the way with poise.
Strategic thinker with a strong ‘business sense’ and a pragmatic approach to risk mitigation.
