About LegalVision

LegalVision is a commercial law firm built for businesses that want to work differently. Through our fixed-fee legal membership, we provide unlimited legal support to SMEs and in-house teams. Our team uses custom-built technology to deliver fast, high-quality legal support with predictable pricing for clients and rewarding careers for those who work here.

With rapidly scaling operations across New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom, LegalVision offers unique progression pathways, exposure to diverse work at scale, and the opportunity to be part of an innovative law firm recognised as a 5 Star Employer of Choice, a Top 25 Attraction Firm, and Law Firm of the Year.

The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity exists for a talented Senior Associate to join our growing ANZ Construction & Infrastructure team. We’re looking for a technically strong lawyer with a passion for client service, who is keen to help us build out our New Zealand construction practice.

You’ll be working across a broad range of construction, infrastructure and commercial matters. We service small, medium and enterprise-level clients, with a focus on providing efficient, cost-effective and quality legal services.

Our NZ team works fully remotely, but we arrange offsites and other events throughout the year to come together. We offer access to coworking spaces (and have a dedicated office in Christchurch for those local to the area). The successful candidate will also be provided with an allowance to set up a comfortable home office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a broad range of construction contracts including NZS 3910, NZS 3916 and NZ 3604-based contracts, Residential Building Contracts, Consultancy Agreements and Subcontractor Agreements.
  • Advising clients on contract procurement strategies.
  • Assisting with contractual claims and interpretation.
  • Advising clients on a range of regulatory compliance matters such as: security of payment claims, Construction Contracts Act 2002 and Building Act 2004 compliance, Licensed Building Practitioner requirements and all related commercial building industry licensing and regulatory requirements.
  • Building and owning client relationships: You'll be the primary point of contact for clients, acting as their trusted legal adviser. Beyond delivering excellent legal work, you'll proactively identify opportunities to add value and help their businesses succeed.
  • Contributing to the growth of team and business through the delivery of articles, external webinars, and internal ‘LV Academy’ training sessions.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Quality experience: 5+ years' experience from a reputable legal environment, whether in-house or private practice or both, with demonstrated experience working on front end construction/infrastructure matters. Additional experience in general commercial contracts will be highly valued.
  • Commercial awareness and a solutions-oriented mindset
  • Ability to explain complex legal issues in a clear, practical, and commercially accessible way to non-legal stakeholders.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to run matters autonomously while balancing multiple client priorities in a fast paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build trusted relationships with clients and colleagues alike.
  • Ability to work autonomously while collaborating effectively within a high-performing team.

The Perks

  • Fully remote role - work from anywhere in NZ! Or, if you’re in Christchurch, work on a hybrid basis at our NZ HQ.
  • Build strong people management and supervision skills.
  • Enjoy flexibility, autonomy and working within an incredible team, all while building a practice and supercharging your career.
  • Meaningfully contribute to the growth and direction of LegalVision.
  • Earn additional ‘LV Leave’ days, plus paid birthday leave, volunteering leave, and parental leave.
  • Annual budget to spend on external learning and development.
