Construction Project Coordinator

Location: Falls Church, VA
Job Type: Full-Time | Direct Hire
Starting Salary: From $73,000 per year (higher compensation may be available based on experience)

Position Overview

We are seeking a Construction Project Coordinator to assist with the successful delivery of commercial and institutional construction projects. This position works closely with project managers, field personnel, subcontractors, and office teams to support project planning, documentation, scheduling, and daily operations from preconstruction through project closeout.

This opportunity is well suited for someone with commercial construction experience who is interested in growing into a Project Manager role.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Project Coordination

  • Support construction projects from planning through final closeout.
  • Coordinate project documentation, including RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, quality records, safety documentation, financial reports, and closeout packages.
  • Review project status and assist in identifying schedule, budget, or production concerns.
  • Process construction documents, shop drawings, and submittals.
  • Track project changes, gather pricing information, prepare cost estimates, and process change orders.
  • Help maintain compliance with contract requirements, project specifications, safety standards, and applicable regulations.
  • Estimating & Scheduling

    • Assist with quantity takeoffs using digitizers, paper plans, and 3D modeling software.
    • Prepare and update construction schedules using scheduling software.
    • Support project estimating and cost tracking throughout the project lifecycle.
    • Field & Administrative Support

      • Assist with field layout by reviewing drawings, verifying dimensions, preparing control line drawings, and supporting CADD-related tasks.
      • Coordinate subcontractor documentation, purchase orders, and contract administration.
      • Prepare reports using Project Center, USACE QCS/RMS, Prolog, and other construction management software.
      • Work with project teams to resolve field issues and keep work progressing on schedule.
      • Coordinate with internal departments, including Accounting, Human Resources, and Information Services.
      • Participate in constructability reviews, value engineering discussions, project meetings, company meetings, and training sessions.
      • Travel to project sites throughout the assigned region as needed.

Preferred Certifications

The following certifications are preferred. Candidates who do not currently hold them may be given up to six months after hire to obtain them.

  • OSHA 30
  • First Aid
  • CPR
  • USACE/NAVFAC CQC Certification
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) or Associate Constructor (AC)

Preferred Experience

  • Coordinating commercial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.
  • Familiarity with Design-Build, IDIQ, Lump Sum, and Fast Track project delivery methods.
  • Experience supporting projects valued up to approximately $4 million or contributing to larger commercial construction projects.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and project performance.
  • Requirements

    Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field with 2–3 years of experience working for a commercial or industrial general contractor; or
  • At least 5 years of commercial construction experience in place of a degree.
  • Experience supporting both subcontracted work and self-performed construction activities.
  • Knowledge of commercial, institutional, renovation, and site construction practices.
  • Experience with estimating, scheduling, project tracking, and construction documentation.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets, email, and construction management software.
  • Basic understanding of civil, architectural, mechanical, and electrical construction disciplines.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with project managers, subcontractors, field teams, and office staff.
  • Willingness to travel between multiple project locations.
  • Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to walk active construction sites for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs throughout the workday.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record for travel between project sites and occasional material pickups.
