Job Description

At Zoox, you will be a member of the Chassis Brakes & Steering team responsible for component and system requirements, testing and reporting, and collaborating on vehicle system integration issues. In this role, you will work closely with the Chassis Engineering team to coordinate the execution and delivery of engineering milestones by working cross-functionally with Vehicle Integration and Attributes, Functional Safety, Electrical Integration, Software, and other teams. In addition, the candidate will work with tier-one suppliers to design and develop the controller and evaluate component-level test results.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Author, refine, and maintain comprehensive technical specifications for brake controls, collaborating closely with external suppliers and cross-functional internal teams at Zoox.
  • Lead suppliers in the development of brake control functions to meet prescribed performance targets and to deliver FW releases in time for company milestones.
  • Design and develop robust diagnostic scripts and tools to streamline system troubleshooting and validation.
  • Lead the triage, resolution, and impact assessment of supplier firmware defects by leveraging insights from architecture and system design teams.
  • Partner with multidisciplinary experts in AI, Mechatronics, Computer Vision, and Robotics to integrate cutting-edge innovations into the core vehicle platform.
  • Requirements

    Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field, with 6+ years of hands-on experience in the automotive or aerospace industry.
  • Direct ownership of functional development, tuning, or validation for hydraulic braking systems (e.g., ABS, ESC, TCS, e-Brake) at an automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier.
  • Proven track record of debugging complex, ambiguous, and multi-faceted issues spanning the hardware-software-firmware boundary.
  • Extensive experience developing, configuring, and operating Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test benches to execute automated firmware regression testing.
  • Strong understanding of the automotive product development lifecycle, including software release processes, change management, and long-term schedule planning.
  • Bonus Qualifications

  • Advanced, hands-on experience with industry-standard tools: Vector CANalyzer/CANoe, dSPACE (ControlDesk/ConfigurationDesk), Polarion, Jira, and Confluence.
  • Familiarity with automotive communication protocols (CAN, CAN-FD) and functional safety standards (ISO 26262, ASIL-D).
  • Experience writing test scripts using Python, MATLAB/Simulink, or CAPL to automate HIL validation suites.
