Aerospace Engineering Documentation Technician
Location: Newport News, VA
Job Type: Contract-to-Hire
Starting Pay: $40.00/hour (Higher pay available based on experience)
Position Overview
Seeking an experienced Engineering Technician / Technical Writer with an aerospace, aviation, or avionics background. This position combines hands-on engineering support with the creation and maintenance of technical documentation used for testing, maintenance, certification, engineering, and quality activities.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Test procedures and reports
- Maintenance instructions and work cards
- Engineering Change Notices (ECNs)
- Installation and troubleshooting guides
- Materials & Process (M&P) documentation
- Convert engineering specifications, test data, and technical requirements into clear documentation for technicians, engineers, and auditors.
- Ensure documentation aligns with applicable FAA, EASA, DO-178, DO-254, and AS9100 requirements.
- Work with engineering, quality, manufacturing, and product teams to gather technical information and implement document revisions.
- Support root cause investigations, corrective actions, and technical reporting.
- Maintain calibration records, spare-parts inventory, lab documentation, and safety compliance.
- Prepare certification evidence, test artifacts, and controlled documentation for audits and certification activities.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and document control systems such as SharePoint, Windchill, Teamcenter, or PDM/PLM.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical information clearly.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work within schedule and regulatory requirements.
